Strait, native of Poteet, Texas, released his first album in 1981 with Strait Country. He followed that album up with Strait from the Heart, but neither reached the top of the country charts. The same can't be said of the next eight releases in the 1980s as they all reached the top of country charts in the United States and all reached certified Platinum status. In the 1990s, Strait released nine albums with five reaching the top of the charts and that success carried into the 2000s with eight releases since 2001, all of which reached the number one spot. That fact shows that Strait has found a way to stay relevant in the country scene despite its ever-changing culture of the business.
The final leg of "The Cowboy Rides Away Tour" will kick off in Bossier City, Louisiana on January 9 before "King George" heads to other selected cities including the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada; Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey; Staples Center in Los Angeles, California; and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. In total, there are 26 dates on this tour, giving fans in most geographical locations a chance to travel within a couple hours to see the country legend.
Over the course of his extensive career in music, Strait has become one of the greatest entertainers in the music business, regardless of genre, and has earned numerous awards and achievements. In November, Strait will receive one of the most prestigious awards from Billboard, The Legend of Live Award. He is the first country artist to receive the award and joins other popular entertainers and bands like Neil Diamond, Journey, Rush, Ozzy Osbourne, Sir Elton John and Michael Cohl who have also received the honor.
"The Cowboy Rides Away Tour" isn't only the final chance for fans to see the country superstar live as it is also the final chance for many top performers to get on the same stage as Strait.
