Georgia Fertility Center Offers Comprehensive Chromosome Screening (CCS) To Boost IVF Success Rates
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 27, 2016 -- Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine (ACRM) a Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine (CCRM) Network Clinic, is pleased to announce the expansion of their genetic screening services, which will now include preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and comprehensive chromosome screening (CCS). By utilizing the latest assisted reproductive technologies, ACRM’S comprehensive genetic services optimize fertility care, so patients may achieve their ultimate goal, a healthy baby.
“CCS is an amazing tool used in conjunction with in vitro fertilization (IVF)”, says Dr. André L. Denis, a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and founding partner of ACRM. “CCS allows us to identify the embryos which are most likely to establish a successful live birth.”
CCS is a genetic testing technology that allows fertility specialists to assess all 23 pairs of human chromosomes in search of abnormalities (aneuploidy). Screening embryos in advance can help achieve higher implantation rates and fewer pregnancy losses, particularly for parents in their late 30's or older, individuals with multiple failed IVF cycles or implantation failure, and couples with repeated miscarriages. An estimated 70% of early miscarriage is associated with a chromosomal abnormality in the fetus.
CCS testing is performed on a few cells biopsied from a Day 5 or Day 6 embryo called a blastocyst. The genetic material of the embryo is not altered in any way during CCS. During the time it takes to perform CCS, blastocysts are cryopreserved using a quick freezing method called vitrification. Embryo survival after vitrification is extremely high, at greater than 98%.
After CCS testing, only embryos that have a normal number of chromosomes are selected for transfer. By eliminating the embryos that cannot make a baby through CCS and using the embryos that have the best chance for success, ACRM is able to save their patients a lot of time, heartache, and ultimately money.
