Georgia Military College-Augusta, Debate Team National Champs
Augusta, GA (PRWEB) March 22, 2014 -- Georgia Military College participates in the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE). Each year, the college campuses across the state form teams to compete at various levels, including intramural, state, and national levels. Students who participate in these competitions research ethical case studies involving public policy, politics, military affairs, international affairs, medical issues, environmental concerns, family law, education, and personal responsibility. Student teams present and defend their proposed solutions to other competing teams and to a panel of expert judges during the competition. Participating in these competitions exposes students to opportunities for ethics training, learning good citizenship and leadership development. The competitions sharpen students’ critical thinking, research, and communication skills while reinforcing character, ethics, values, and personal responsibility.
Georgia Military College’s Augusta campus debate team competed on February 7, 2014, in Milledgeville against the other GMC campus teams to determine which two teams would represent the college at the APPE National 2-year College Ethics Bowl. The Milledgeville and Augusta campus teams won during the intramural debate.
On March 14, 2014, Georgia Military College’s Augusta campus, coached by James Brady and Rich Herdegen, participated in a five round competition in Chicago, Illinois, winning each of the five rounds. At the end of the tournament, the Augusta team declared victory as National Champions.
