Get an Inside Look at Seven Amazing Modern Homes in Portland This Month
Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) April 03, 2015 -- The last Saturday in April marks the return of the annual Portland Modern Home Tour. On April 25th, Portlandians are invited to get an up close and personal look at seven of the area’s most unique homes that exemplify modern architecture and living for the fourth year in a row. Attendees will learn from homeowners what it’s like to live in a modern home and find out where the architects got their inspiration - directly from the source. The tour is self-guided and self-driven, so attendees can explore these seven architectural treasures at their own pace.
Local architecture expert Brian Libby, founder of portlandarchitecture.com, has carefully curated, selected and confirmed the participating homeowners and architects for the 2015 Portland Modern Home Tour. The seven amazing homes included on this year’s tour are:
(1) A home in Northeast Portland, designed by Winn Architecture and built by Homes By Brent Keys, that incorporates elements of modern living within an architectural form that allows infill integration in existing, long-established neighborhoods. The home features large open living areas, an enhanced connection of outdoor living and indoor living through oversized, floor to ceiling windows and doors, clean and contemporary finishes and fixtures, and cable railing at stairs and openings.
(2) A home in southeast Sunnyside that was built on the 50/10 platform a collaboration between builder Cellar Ridge Construction and designer m.o.daby design, which delivers an artfully conceived and constructed home that reduces energy consumption by 50% while keeping the additional investment below 10% compared to a code built home.
(3) A home near Forrest Park, originally built in 1960 and recently renovated extensively by the current owners (with help from Innovative Spaces Epic Construction and Remodeling) in an effort to return the house to its original 1960's roots creating a warm modern livable space for the family. Large windows were added across the front allowing for panoramic territorial and city views. The living space in the back of the home is maximized during warmer months with a large deck, stone patio, and flagstone dining area.
(4) The “ideahousePDX,” located just off SW riverside Drive and just a stone’s throw from the Willamette River, is the vision of David Horning (a partner at MOA architecture) and Holly Freres (owner of JHL design inc). Completed in 2014, the home was built with the idea that simple materials, beautifully designed could make an affordable dwelling, while weaving in green building practices where they could. Transportation assistance to this property provided by EcoShuttle and the Riverdale Grade School.
(5) The residences known as “Burnside 26,” designed by SERA Architects and built by Capstone Partners, is situated in the middle of Portland’s vibrant eastside Kerns neighborhood, and makes modern living easy and comfortable. The building features underground parking, building-centric Wi-Fi, a community keg in the lobby and a rooftop lounge with stunning eastside and downtown views.
(6) A floating home that lies on the Willamette River in the Sellwood area of Portland, designed by Integrate Architecture & Planning, p.c., and was completed just months ago. This two-story modern floating home is designed to capture the stunning views in both directions on the river, and also contains several sustainable features, including a geo-thermal heat pump heating & cooling system as well as a 10 KV photo-voltaic rooftop system.
(7) The LeGendre residence located in the Southwest Hills and designed by Christopher Gelber showcases classic styles of modern architecture and features floor to ceiling windows and French doors on the sides and rear of the home that open onto a series of decks and terraces. The home also contains a 40-foot high Italian marble stairwell, which is crowned with a large glowing pyramidal skylight.
Participating homes in the 2015 Portland Modern Home Tour will open their doors for viewing from 11AM – 5PM on Saturday, April 25th, in the Portland, Oregon area. All are invited to attend. Tickets for each tour are $30 in advance online; $40 on the day of the tour.
As a special continuation of this year’s tour, an architect panel Q&A with several participants will be open to all tour-goers after the tour at a location and time TBD. The panel will be coordinated and hosted by Brian Libby and Gray Magazine.
