Get Dirty/Raise Money at Running Amuck for Scholarship Bucks This September
(PRWEB) July 23, 2013 -- Get ready to get your hands…and arms…and legs…and faces…dirty to raise scholarship dollars for Montana students at Student Assistance Foundation’s Running Amuck for Scholarship Bucks in Butte on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Montana Tech.
Dollars raised through this 5K mud run/obstacle course help fund SAF’s Circle of Succe$$ scholarships. The $1,000 scholarships are provided to Montana students in their second, third and fourth year of college to help cover costs related to their education. To date, SAF has delivered $467,000 through this program.
“It’s a great opportunity to raise funds for a worthwhile cause and have a great time doing it — not to mention get really muddy!” said Schylar Canfield-Baber, race co-chair. “Our race committee has been working since October to make sure we provide participants with a fun and challenging course, great food in the vendor area, and even a band, The Dirty Shame, to listen to after the race.”
The idea for Running Amuck for Scholarship Bucks evolved one Friday last fall as a group of SAF employees let their minds run amok as they considered new ways to raise funds for scholarships, and Running Amuck for Scholarship Bucks was born.
“I am particularly excited about this race because it not only lets Montanans have a good time while helping students fund their education, but it gives the students themselves an opportunity to play a role in funding their future,” said Carolynn Bright, race co-chair. “Plus, we are extremely thankful for the way in which the community of Butte, along with Montana Tech, has offered up its support and embraced this event as its own.”
In addition to Montana Tech, the Montana National Guard, is a founding partner of the event.
Racers can get registered for heats that will begin every 10 minutes between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on race day at http://smartaboutcollege.org/community/running-amuck.jsp. The cost is $25 for students and $50 for non-students — those rates will increase on Sept. 1, so register early. As an added bonus, visitors to Butte on race day can check out Butte-toberfest (Butte’s Oktoberfest) on Park Street near The Quarry Brewing Company from noon to 7 p.m. Activities include live music, food, kids’ fall festival, stein races and beer from 18 Montana breweries.
