Getting College Admissions Right, Then Taking the SAT – and Making It a Family Affair – Announcing the Launch of INCREASE
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 12, 2015 -- “For years, the SAT/ACT tutoring industry has featured students droning through the same practice exams over and over, getting the same questions right and wrong, and earning marginal ‘exposure effect’ improvements in scores. It never helps them get into college and takes away so much time the rest of us enjoyed as upperclassmen in high school.”
Keith Berman’s words above reflect the values of INCREASE, the new tutoring firm that Options for College, Inc., Berman’s academic and college counseling firm in New York, has launched in order to create the next level of service for its students.
“We make a lifelong commitment to our students getting into and getting the most out of college. We’ve helped students gain admissions and even their first job offers, but never really tackled the question of how to get over the dreaded rite of passage [the SAT/ACT] in the same deliberate way we take them through the admissions process.”
“Until now,” he continues.
INCREASE is a new breed of tutoring firm that combines Berman's extensive admissions expertise, work with gifted and Jewish student populations, and time serving as and training guidance counselors, with the best in tutoring practices. Students who enroll in INCREASE will receive rigorous academic support and test preparation, along with the admissions strategies that they need to get into the colleges of their dreams. Berman, in addition to founding Options for College, created and taught Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth’s College Prep, and has spoken at colleges like MIT, Yale, Harvard, Emory, Berkeley, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, on the topic “What Counts in the College Admissions Process.” He went to Yale as an undergrad and Harvard and Bank Street College for his education degrees, working in undergraduate admissions at both Yale and Harvard.
*What Makes INCREASE Worth Announcing?*
Unlike other firms, which segregate tutoring and college advisory services, INCREASE is founded on the idea that they're two sides of the same coin.
Every decision, regardless of how small it may seem, will be filtered through the thousands of hours of experience represented at Options for College. Even the decision of whether to take the SAT or the ACT, which serve the same functional purpose, will only be made after an in-depth analysis of student strengths and performance.
*Leadership*
So, after spending half a year training the first cohort of tutors, developing practice exam schedules, and setting up Increase’s office, where did Keith turn to find his new leadership?
“The short list of people who had the credibility, credentials, organization and high standards we do started with one person: my brother. It didn’t hurt that he has degrees from two Ivy League universities and had seen the process from the perspective of an interviewer.”
Jeff Berman, a Columbia-educated attorney who went to Penn undergrad, signed up to help launch the firm.
“Having studied for both the SAT and the LSAT under the conditions where nothing but the best would do, I was familiar with the standard. While we don’t always agree, Keith and I independently arrived at the conclusion that tutoring and admissions help were far too divided and should come together. The timing and the organization just seemed right, so I jumped in.”
