Gilbane Leading Houston First Theater District Reconstruction Project
(PRWEB) October 18, 2017 -- Gilbane Building Company, nationally recognized leaders in construction services, is coordinating efforts to repair the Theater District’s parking garages and the Wortham Center from damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. Gilbane’s Reconstruction Services Group was selected by Houston First Corporation to head this important project.
The basement of the Wortham Theater Center was filled with 12 feet of water from Hurricane Harvey. In addition, water filled the tunnel that connects the Wortham to the Theater District Parking Garage. To prevent extensive damage to the mechanical and electrical systems, Gilbane was retained and immediately began pumping out the water and stabilizing the building. There was extensive damage to the building’s air handling units, electrical and the elevator systems. Gilbane continues to work directly with Houston First on damage assessments and related emergency services.
A media tour was given by Houston First on Friday, September 22 to give local media outlets the opportunity to tour the damage to the facility, take photographs and conduct interviews. Safety measures were put in place by Gilbane and Houston First to ensure all those participating were protected at all times.
