Ventura, CA (PRWEB) October 18, 2013 -- Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast announced today receipt of a $20,000 grant award from the Harriet H. Samuelsson Foundation to provide Girl Scout outreach programming in Ventura County and will target areas in Santa Paula, Oxnard and Camarillo. Working with local school districts, youth-oriented community-based organizations, and housing authorities, Girl Scouts will bring unique personal development programs to girls where they learn, play, and live.
“Reaching girls in underserved areas continues to be a council priority,” said Gina Jaeger, CEO Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast. “This generous award from the Samuelsson Foundation will allow the council to move the Mission further into communities to connect girls with activities that are both fun and enriching to help them grow and navigate the twists and turns of life.”
Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast plans to offer a diverse range of six-week leadership-focused program sessions each covering a specific theme that is relevant to girl's needs and interests such as BFF - Be a Friend First - for relationship building and bullying prevention, exploration of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields, building self-esteem through storytelling, and addressing unhealthy diets and rising obesity trends through sports.
Known as the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, program sessions are scheduled to begin in October and run through July 2014. For more information, contact: Camille Jaque, VP Membership, cjaque(at)girlscoutsccc(dot)org.
