Global Meeting of Home-based Workers, Hosted by WIEGO and HomeNet South Asia, Brings Together Workers to Plan Their Future
Dehli, India (PRWEB) February 06, 2015 -- Home-based workers are among the most vulnerable of all informal workers. They work within, or near, their homes as own account (self-employed) or subcontracted workers. They generally remain invisible to the public and to policy makers. They work in the bottom links of value/supply chains and are, in the worst cases, exploited by contractors and subcontractors.
On February 8th and 9th, more than 110 home-based worker representatives and supporters from 24 countries – Argentina, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Georgia, Germany, Indonesia, India, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, U.K., Uganda and USA – will take part in a global meeting of home-based workers.
This Global Conference on Home-based Workers, organized by WIEGO and HomeNet South Asia and taking place in Delhi, India, will bring attention to the issues facing home-based workers and will provide an opportunity for worker representatives to plan the future of the home-based workers' movement. A highlight of the conference is the expected adoption of the 1st Global Declaration of Home-based Workers.
