Global Traveler Hosts Gala Reception for Award Winners
Yardley, PA (PRWEB) December 13, 2013 -- Global Traveler hosted its 10th annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards reception Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at The Peninsula Beverly Hills. This is the third consecutive year the event has been held at The Peninsula Beverly Hills.
More than 200 guests gathered to congratulate the respected winners on their achievements. Guest of honor Terry Waite appeared on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Waite is a humanitarian and lecturer. He spent 1,763 days as a hostage in Lebanon, the first four years of which were spent in solitary confinement. He was taken captive while negotiating for the release of Western hostages. Waite inspired the audience to action with a speech on the importance of finding creativity in suffering and doing work to support those less fortunate. Waite was the speaker at Global Traveler’s inaugural awards in 2004, and returned to commemorate the 10th anniversary.
Waite urged attendees to donate travel-related prizes to Global Traveler’s charity auction, benefitting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The auction kicks off March 1. Founded in 1949 and headquartered in White Plains, N.Y., The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. “It was an honor to welcome Terry Waite to our 10th annual awards; he is truly an inspiration, and as such, a perfect representative on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,” said Francis X. Gallagher, publisher and CEO, Global Traveler. “A big thank you to The Peninsula Beverly Hills for helping us host another successful event. The turnout was superb, with executives worldwide attending. Congratulations once again to the winners.”
Award winners traveled from around the world to accept accolades on behalf of their companies. Nearly 50 awards were presented at the event, held in the hotel’s Verandah room. Guests sampled wines provided by the Wines on the Wing airline wine survey award winners, also recognized that evening. All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Jet Airways and Virgin America donated wines for the night’s event. Event sponsors included Incheon International Airport, China Airlines, Fiesta Americana and Avianca LifeMiles.
In addition to the GT Tested Reader Survey awards and the Wines on the Wing winners, the 2013 Airline and Hotel of the Year winners were also honored. Etihad and Address Hotels + Resorts celebrated the top achievements in 2013.
The event marked the inauguration of GT’s Hall of Fame, celebrating those companies that won the same award for the past 10 years. Honorees included Singapore Airlines, United MileagePlus, Asiana Airlines, South African Airways and Sheraton Latin America.
