GoBRT combines Romance and Adventure on a road trip to West Virginia.
Harpers Ferry, West Virginia (PRWEB) February 29, 2016 -- “I recognize that this is not a couch potato generation,” said Nancy Craun, founder of Go Blue Ridge Travel. “So in 2016, we are going to start a new series of road trips for the romantic adventurist. The plans will center around the northern Shenandoah Valley along the Interstate 81 Corridor picking a luxury lodging location, exploring foodie passions from beverage to food, and then adding outdoor activities.”
Trip #1 will start with a stay at the beautiful Hillbrook Inn and Spa in Charles Town, West Virginia. With three properties to select from, Hillbrook Inn has been open for two decades and is an easy road trip outside of DC. Situated on George Washington’s first land purchase in 1750, there are 18 guest suites between three properties on thirty acres. The main house has the European atmosphere. The Hawthorne suites are in the extensively restored Hawthorne House dating back to the 1714. The Hawthorne offers guests beautiful views of the farming community and apple orchards.
Booking the romance package, couples receive a dozen roses, chocolate covered strawberries, and a bottle of champagne as well as a romantic five course dinner for two.
Now to kick the weekend up a notch. After arriving on Friday evening, awake Saturday morning, enjoying a wonderful breakfast and then head out for a great hike to Harpers Ferry - Virginius Island. Rather than parking in the busy Harper’s Ferry lot at the Visitor Center and doing the typically touristy thing, GoBRT’s guest author, Marilyn Finnemore, recommends parking in the small lot on Shenandoah Street just off Route 340 West as one crosses the Shenandoah River; this is where the Appalachian Trail connects to the old Shenandoah Canal and provides a gorgeous scenic hike into the village. Go early to get a parking spot, and then plan to spend a few hours wandering.
Then drop back to Hillbrook after a light lunch in Shepherdstown at Mellow Moods, a local’s favorite. Shepherdstown offers nice shopping with eclectic shops and is also a wonderful town to explore the back alleys where the local community life takes place. Take a break before dinner with a couples massage spa experience back at Hillbrook Inn. Then as part of the romance package, enjoy a romantic five course dinner for two. The evening can end with a competitive fun game of billiards or darts at the Hawthorne or a night cap at the tavern here at the Main House.
Sunday, it is another gourmet breakfast prepared by Chef Justin Meyer. Check out of Hillbrook and follow another great hike. There are several great places to catch the Appalachian Trail close to many Northern Virginia wineries, restaurants and historic sites. Blackburn Trail Center just outside Round Hill, Virginia is one of those places. At the end of one's hike, enjoy a glass of wine and charcuterie at Loudoun Vineyard a reminder to the couple that the Shenandoah Valley is a wonderful place for romance and adventure.
