Gogekko, Developers of iGab 3D Voice Messenger Mobile App Attend App Summer Camp Event
Hamburg, Germany (PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- GoGekko, a woman-owned mobile app, iGab, development company, attended the closing ceremonies of the App summer Camp in Hamburg. The camp is focused for girls between the ages 14 and 18 and is designed to generate interest in technology and to teach them to program their own apps. The camp was sponsored by IBM in Hamburg, Germany and organized by the OpenTechSchool Hamburg. The camp received nation-wide TV coverage on ZDF.
“It was great to see level of excitement shown by the girls and how proud they were when presenting their apps, which they programed within only a few short days,” stated Sabine Hutchison-Leidel Co-Founder of GoGekko.
The girls were divided into groups and received mentoring from several women programmers who volunteered their time. Each group developed an idea for the app and the coding began.
“Great things are happening in Hamburg: Last week we had the first “App Summer Camp”. Twelve girls aged 13 to 15 learned how to develop Apps on their own. But they did not only learn programming. They also learned how to pitch and present their results to an audience. Another important part of the four day workshop was to meet female role models who work as software engineers and mobile app developers,” stated Diana Knodel
Many of the girls expressed interest in continuing to learn how to program, unfortunately very few schools offer such programs. Larassia Bergen from Buchholz, Germany, stated “Coding is like a math equation and is pretty easy…just one logical step after the other, once you get into it is easier then I thought it would be. The programs were in English and this was also not too hard.”
Having released their first app “iGab” in iTunes this year, GoGekko completely supports the idea of girls having practical experience in the tech scene. “We hope that this project will continue in the years to come and have already pledged to provide any support we can. This camp is an excellent platform that allows girls to dive into the world of technology,” stated Kathryn Hagedorn Co-Founder of GoGekko.
