Golf Collectors Society Holding 43rd Annual Meeting in Southern Pines, NC on November 10-12, 2013
Southern Pines, NC (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- The Golf Collectors Society (GCS), a non-profit organization of members who collect golf memorabilia and play with hickory golf clubs, will hold their 43rd Annual Meeting & Trade Show at Pine Needles/Mid Pines Resort in Southern Pines, North Carolina on November 10-12, 2013.
On Sunday afternoon, November 10, the United States Golf Association (USGA) Museum is hosting a Golf History Symposium at the Pine Needles/Mid Pines Resort featuring original research by authors and scholars on the game of golf. The GCS General Membership Meeting is Monday, November 11 at 9:00 a.m.; followed by an education session for GCS members beginning at 10:00 a.m. A panel will discuss how to obtain appraisals and how to sell your collection or collectibles. Representatives from a traditional auction house, an on-line auction house, and an expert on eBay will comprise the panel.
The GCS Hickory Championship will be played on the Donald Ross designed Mid Pines Course on Monday, November 11, with a shotgun start at 12:00 Noon. GCS members and their guests will compete with wood shaft clubs in the Open Division, Senior Open Division and the Scramble; many will be dressed in traditional attire, including knickers for the gentlemen and long skirts for the ladies.
On Monday, November 11, the GCS Annual Banquet will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner. The keynote speaker is Michael Fay, Captain of the Donald Ross Society. The GCS Founders award will be presented during the banquet, as well as tournament prizes.
The GCS Annual Trade Show is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and features 150 tables of golf artifacts and memorabilia, including antique golf clubs, bags, golf balls, books, documents, ceramics, silver, sculpture, jewelry, medals, trophies, art, photos, and ephemera - available for sale or trade. The public is invited to attend the GCS Trade Show free of charge at the Pine Needles/Mid Pines Resort in the Pine Needles Reception Center from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12.
The GCS, founded in 1970, has nearly 1100 members, representing 15 different countries and a wide variety of collecting interests. The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Bulletin, which includes news, events, book reviews and articles of historical interest. Display advertising and classified ads are available. A Membership Directory, listing members and their collecting interests, is published annually.
