Google Game System Will Be More Than OUYA Rip
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) July 19, 2013 -- Leaks have indicated that tech giant Google is now creating its own gaming console, to compete with a gaming service in the works from Apple. Speculation is rampant over the nature of the new system, but technologist and digital marketer Jason Hennessey says there's no doubt: it will compete with the “Big Three” of gaming.
Microsoft's Xbox, Sony's Playstation and Nintendo have long dominated the world of gaming consoles, releasing pricy high-performance devices that often have exclusive game titles. But other entries to the gaming market have focused on accessibility: indie gaming portal Steam, the Apple TV-based product that's also been leaked, and Kickstarter success story OUYA, a $99 open gaming platform according to CNN (6.28.13).
OUYA was built on the Google Android OS, which has commentators predicting Google's system will be similar, but Hennessey says that's unlikely.
“OUYA is an indie success,” said Hennessey, who founded Everspark Interactive, Atlanta SEO Company. “Google could easily crush them in their own market, but it's a small market and it would harm Google's reputation as pro-innovation. If they wanted an open platform, they would offer to buy out OUYA.”
Instead, Hennessey says Google must have its sights set on the big players.
“These three companies have owned the console market for a decade, and they basically all do things the same way,” Hennessey said. “If you want a high-end console and big budget games, there's a lot of room to upset the norm. You could make a lot of gamers very happy.”
Hennessey says the biggest hurdle to that approach is amassing a catalog of exclusive game titles – but he believes Google can do it.
“If Google comes and asks you for a blockbuster game title, there isn't a developer in the world who'd close the door.”
