gooimusic workshop to explore Jazz, South Indian themes
CHENNAI, India (PRWEB) July 29, 2015 -- gooimusic creative director Jared Freiburg will be conducting a 10-day music workshop in Chennai starting the week of August 3. According to gooimusic advisory board chairman Mohan Narayanan, the classes will culminate with a public concert officially launching the gooimusic YouTube channel in India and introducing at least one original musical composition.
Also present for the launch will be Paul N. Greenwood, CEO of mygooi, and Steve Beaumont, president and chief operating officer of gooi development (gooidev).
Freiburg is arriving in Chennai from Des Moines, Iowa, on July 31.
gooimusic is the innovative music channel established by mygooi on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/c/gooimusic).
“I’m looking forward to teaching these select students the essentials of Jazz, while learning more about India’s music,” said Freiburg.
According to Narayanan, a composer who is expert in musical themes from all over the world, Freiburg will also be meeting with leading South Indian classical musicians to discuss their music and the challenges of combining tonal elements from Asia, Europe, America and other parts of the world.
When Freiburg was named gooimusic creative director, he expressed particular interest in fusing traditional Indian music with Jazz, giving well-known Indian themes a more modern twist.
Narayanan said the APL Global School in the Thoraipakkam area of Chennai has selected a dozen students for the workshop, which will run at the school for two hours daily after regular classes. He said, “At the end of the workshop, Jared and I, along with the students, will have created a new Indo-Jazz theme song for the Indian Government's CLEAN INDIA campaign. The theme song and other pieces will be performed by Jared and the students.”
The theme for the national campaign will be recorded and sent to the Indian Prime Minister's Office as well as posted on mygooi’s facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/mygooi) and on gooimusic. Narayanan said, “I have already started composing the song's elements and am also writing the lyrics, which will be in the local Indian language, Tamil. It can later be translated into other major Indian languages.”
