Governor Cooper Appoints James Scott Farrin Vice President to Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force
Durham, NC (PRWEB) October 03, 2017 -- Governor Roy Cooper has appointed Eric J. Sanchez, Vice President of the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, to the 27-member Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force.
In a press release dated October 2nd, Governor Roy Cooper said, “I’m pleased that these North Carolinians with such a strong set of skills and backgrounds are willing to serve our state and move it forward.”
Sanchez was appointed to the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force based on his work with the American Heart Association. He worked with the American Heart Association on Senate Bill 98 and House Bill 105 in 2013. Both bills passed unanimously. These bills require screening at birth for Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) via pulse oximetry – a device that is clipped to an infant’s toe to measure oxygen levels in the blood.
CCHDs are the number one killer of infants with birth defects. Infants with CCHDs are at significant risk for death or disability if not diagnosed and treated soon after birth. Pulse oximetry is considered the standard of care to measure oxygenation levels in the blood, and greatly assists in diagnosing CCHDs.
Twelve years ago, Sanchez’ 6-week-old daughter Grace went to the doctor for what he thought was an ear infection. She was rushed immediately from that appointment to Duke Children’s Hospital after the doctor noted abnormal sounds during a routine heartbeat exam.
“After Grace was diagnosed, I promised myself something good would come of it. Since then I have tried to serve when and where I can,” Sanchez said.
In addition to serving as the Vice President of James Scott Farrin, Sanchez is the Chief Operating Officer of Farrin’s consulting arm, Upcycle Legal. He is also assisting in the development of new and innovative legal technology. Sanchez holds two U.S. patents and has several other patents pending. He designed and implemented several major administrative programs for one of the largest civil-rights cases in United States history: In re Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation, his work was cited by the Court.
Sanchez is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and has a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from California State University – East Bay.
