Atlanta, GA. (PRWEB) February 26, 2015 -- Atlanta, GA – February 26, 2015 – On February 20, Governor Nathan Deal signed a proclamation designating March 2-6 as Telework Week in Georgia. During this week, Georgia Commute Options, a program of the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT), provides resources and information to encourage commuters and employers to consider teleworking a viable alternative to driving alone in traffic congestion.
Governor Deal’s Proclamation states: “Teleworking can have an immediate impact on reducing vehicle emissions, traffic congestion, strain on existing infrastructure, air pollution, and increasing commute mobility. The projected average annual impact of one person teleworking in Georgia is 2,000 fewer miles driven, over 50 hours of commute time saved, and smog reduced to improve the air we breathe.”
“We thank Governor Deal for his continued support of Georgia Telework Week, now in its sixth year,” said Cindy VanDyke, Georgia DOT State Transportation Planning Administrator. “We know that many employers in the region with telework programs, including the Georgia DOT, have experienced increased employee productivity, and they certainly have made a difference in the region’s traffic congestion and air quality. We hope that employers will utilize this week to implement a telework program or investigate viable alternatives through the resources that Georgia Commute Options offers.”
During Georgia Telework Week, Georgia Commute Options encourages metro area commuters and employers to log their telework days at GaCommuteOptions.com. The program website provides employers with information and free resources, including consulting services on how to best implement a teleworking strategy for their employees. In addition to teleworking, Georgia Commute Options also incentivizes commuters with cash rewards to try other alternatives to driving alone, like using carpools, vanpools, or public transportation.
As part of Georgia Telework Week, Georgia Commute Options is hosting free webinars to educate and train teleworkers and telemanagers on teleworking best practices. A webinar on Business Continuity will also be available to illustrate how a company with a telework policy can maintain communication and productivity if employees are unable to make it into the office due to inclement weather or other emergencies.
