GovX Announces National Fallen Firefighters Foundation as October's Recipient of Mission Giveback Donation Program
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 03, 2017 -- GovX, the online shopping site exclusively for current and former military, first responders and government employees, selected the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation as October's recipient of the Mission Giveback donation program. Each month, GovX supports a new service-related foundation performing work in the military, first responder, or law enforcement communities with each order placed on GovX.com during the given month.
The NFFF's mission is to honor and remember the fallen heroes of America's fire services, and to provide resources to assist their family members in rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of tragedy. The foundation also performs work within the fire service community to reduce firefighter deaths, researching causes of death and promoting on-the-job health and safety.
"Having just attended the San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb where we got to meet so many amazing people from the fire service, it's a special honor to be able to support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation as this month's Mission Giveback recipient," said Alan Cole, GovX CEO.
Created by Congress in 1992, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit which continues to lead nationwide efforts to honor the men and women working in the country's fire services.
The NFFF plays an immediate role in the difficult time families experience following a loved one's death in the line of duty. Families receive emotional support through peer support networks comprised of other firefighter family members, and spouses and children are eligible for scholarship assistance for education and job training.
In addition to their support for firefighters' families, the NFFF works to examine the increasing number of firefighter line-of-duty deaths occurring in America each year. Since 2004, they have identified 16 firefighter life safety initiatives as part of their national program to prevent on-the-job deaths. The program, called "Everyone Goes Home" is being implemented nationwide as part of the U.S. Fire Administration's goal to minimize firefighter death.
At the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week in October, the Foundation holds the official national tribute to career, volunteer, military, and wildland firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year. The event is held at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD, and includes special programs for survivors and coworkers along with public ceremonies honoring the men and women of the fire services.
“The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is very excited about this opportunity to partner with GovX on this dynamic event,” said Chief Ron Siarnicki, Executive Director of the NFFF. “We are also grateful for GovX’s generous support of the Foundation and the fire service, as well as their commitment to heightening awareness about our mission to a broader audience.”
