Gracie Gym opens Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Richardson, TX
Richardson, Texas (PRWEB) September 21, 2017 -- Michael Smith, a local Richardson entrepreneur, has opened a Gracie Gym Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in the Richardson Heights neighborhood. Gracie Gym was originally founded by Crolin Gracie, son of Carlos Gracie, one of the pioneers of the world renowned martial art known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a combat system focuses on teaching an individual to defend themselves against a larger opponent from the ground, sometimes referred to as grappling or ground fighting. The academy in Richardson will be led by Professor Alex Faria, a Brazilian black belt since 2009 under Roger Gracie. Also teaching self-defense and children’s classes will be Taryn Douglas, a local black belt under Carlos Machado.
The academy will provide advanced multimedia capabilities with numerous options to live stream, record classes and private lessons. Additionally, Gracie Gym sells a variety of specialty products related specifically to Jiu-Jitsu and grappling. The academy is located in Arapaho Village in Richardson Heights and is centrally located near many local schools, the YMCA, Richardson Heights Recreation Center and Aquatic Center and many businesses that make taking a class convenient. Gracie Gym offers a full schedule that includes morning, noon and night classes for kids and adults of all skill levels.
Gracie Gym will specialize in anti-bullying curriculum as the focus of the martial art is teaching a smaller opponent to defend themselves against a larger opponent by utilizes leverage and submission techniques. Jiu-Jitsu is utilized by law enforcement and military personnel across the world. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gained notoriety in the states when Royce Gracie gained fame for winning the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 1, 2 and 4, proving that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu would hold up against any other fighting technique. He is widely considered the most influential figure in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
