Grammy-Winning Artist Natalie Cole Joins Mediaplanet to Amplify Awareness of Hepatitis C, the “Silent Killer”
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 23, 2015 -- With over 3.2 million people infected with chronic hepatitis C in the United States and over 75 percent unaware they are infected or show any signs or symptoms, dedicated companies, organizations, researchers and support groups need to band together to promote awareness and education about this potentially fatal disease.
Often referred to as the “silent killer,” hepatitis can be asymptomatic for years while slowly causing severe liver damage, even cirrhosis or liver cancer. Silent, too, because viral hepatitis remains virtually unknown to the general public, at-risk populations and even health care professionals. Mediaplanet today announces distribution of its first cross-platform edition of “Hepatitis & Liver Health,” this campaign will draw attention to the importance of hepatitis awareness, testing education, treatment and liver transplantation, while also erasing the stigma and judgments attached to the disease.
The print component of “Hepatitis & Liver Health” is distributed within today’s edition of USA Today in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh/Cleveland, Washington DC/Baltimore, Seattle, Minneapolis and South Florida, with a circulation of approximately 450,000 copies and an estimated readership of 1.3 million. The digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets. Multiple Grammy-winning artist, Natalie Cole graces the cover of the print publication. Through an exclusive interview on the interior, the star opens up about her personal and courageous battle with hepatitis C and discusses what steps need to be taken to erase the stigma attached to the disease. “There are so many individuals out there who don’t even know they are walking around with this disease, let alone able to get the help they need,” Natalie shares. “Don’t be ashamed—educate yourself about symptoms.” Cole goes on to advocate being more educated on the disease and a heightened awareness surrounding risk factors and symptoms.
This campaign was made possible with the support of the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable, American Society of Transplantation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Hepatitis C Association, HCV Advocate, Quest Diagnostics, University of Michigan Health System, Pack Health, University of Wisconsin Health, University of Maryland Medical Center and many more.
