• Catch A Show at the Newly Renovated Avalon Theatre: Built for the residents of Grand Junction by local publishing giant Walter Walker in 1923, the Avalon Theatre was, and still is, one of Western Colorado's largest performing arts halls. The theatre, which recently underwent a $9.65 million renovation, offers a state-of-the-art performance and movie screening venue. This year, the theatre is welcoming exciting performances from nationally acclaimed groups including Lyle Lovett & His Acoustic Group, Comedian Rodney Carrington, and the Russian Ballet presenting Swan Lake.
• Explore the Night Sky: Experience the grandeur of the Colorado National Monument at night with Ranger-led Full Moon and Dark Sky Walks. Learn about the night sky, as well as area wildlife and vegetation that comes to life when the stars come out. There is even a group howl! • Eat Your Way through Downtown on a Food Tour: New in 2015 Grand Junction Food Tours are a great way to experience downtown. The walking tours combine tasty samples from local restaurants with personal stories from favorite area chefs and business owners, as well as fun facts from Grand Junction's history. Personable guides will take visitors to a variety of restaurants and show-off their favorite dishes while providing historical insights to the area.
• Sleep Under a Million Stars: Explore Grand Mesa National Forest to discover a number of peaceful lakes surrounded by dense, green forests, offering excellent fishing opportunities, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. When the sun sets, campers can settle in for the night at one of nearly 40 campsites and surround themselves with some of the most spectacular stargazing opportunities in the state. Enjoy campfire sing-alongs, s’mores and share stories from the day’s adventures.
• Rock Out at a Vineyard Concert Series: Stop by Grande River Vineyards in Palisade and enjoy an evening of live music and great wine during their summer concert series, Heard it Through the Grapevine. Concerts will take place on the lawn at Grande River each Saturday this summer beginning June 6, through August 8 and feature performances from groups including Hazel Miller and the WC Jazz Orchestra. Guests can purchase dinner on-site or pack their own picnic to enjoy. All concert proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with shows beginning at 7:30 p.m. weekly.
