Granicus Partners with City and County of Denver to Launch New Legislative Platform
Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 15, 2016 -- Granicus, the leading provider of cloud-based software solutions for government efficiency and transparency, announced today that with the City and County of Denver, Colorado’s launch of its legislative management suite on Sept. 12, a majority of the largest cities in the United States now utilize Granicus software to manage their public meeting legislative processes.
Denver’s implementation of Granicus’ legislative management suite, powered by Legistar, means that 26 of the 50 largest cities in the U.S. call Granicus a partner and utilize the software to streamline workflows, improve internal and external transparency and make the public meeting preparation process more efficient. Denver will utilize Legistar as part of a paperless initiative, which is intended to help the City cut its paper usage while also helping staff streamline the agenda preparation processes by easing the burden of manual agenda and legislative item compilation.
The public can access Denver’s legislative search at https://denver.legistar.com/Legislation.aspx.
Stacy Simonet, Senior City Council Aide, said the City’s decision to launch the Granicus legislative management suite aims to help staff avoid “workarounds” in the old system or having to find other programs to accomplish tasks.
“We’re hoping that by streamlining, down the road, it just becomes very smooth and we’re eliminating all those extra steps,” Simonet said.
The Denver City Council also plans to deploy iLegislate, Granicus’ in-meeting application that allows Councilors to review, mark up and make notations on an agenda digitally on a tablet or desktop device, with the eventual goal of eliminating the need for printed agenda packets.
“There’s some excitement at the thought of being able to just carry one tool and access everything [Councilors] need in one spot,” Simonet said.
Granicus has operated out of Denver since early 2015 after relocating from San Francisco, with the City of Denver using Granicus’ live webstreaming software since 2005. In addition to working with Denver to add Legistar and iLegislate, Granicus will help the City deploy a digital voting and minutes recording system, as well as citizen participation functionality that will allow interested parties to submit feedback on important issues and topics online.
“This is an important partnership for Granicus,” said Jason Fletcher, Granicus CEO. “The fact that we can provide these solutions to our home city is an honor for us and we wouldn’t want it any other way; but perhaps more importantly, it speaks to Legistar’s continued staying power in serving the most complex legislative processes in local government.”
