Grant Will Help Lakeland College Fund Community Internships
Sheboygan, Wis. (PRWEB) August 23, 2013 -- Lakeland College has been awarded a $150,000 Career Ready Internship Initiative grant from the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Lakeland will use the funds to convert 113 of its 150 unpaid internships into paid opportunities, and 20 new internships that will serve the community will be created. Funds will also be used to cover student transportation costs.
“This grant will help Lakeland level the playing field so that all students—regardless of their financial situation—are able to experience the benefits of participation in an internship that will ultimately advance their post-graduate careers,” said Jess Lambrecht, Lakeland’s director of career development. “This award is a benefit not only to the college and its students, but also to local non-profits and businesses that cannot otherwise provide funding for interns.”
Lakeland Interim President Dan Eck said the grant will provide new avenues for student success. “We are extremely grateful to Great Lakes for giving us the resources to provide more of our students with opportunities that will help to prepare them for life after college,” he said. “An already strong internship program is now even better.”
