Great Escape Publishing Hosts the Ultimate Travel Writer’s Workshop in Boston, MA This Weekend

Travel Writing Experts:
Jennifer Stevens is the author of The Ultimate Travel Writer’s Program (Great Escape Publishing’s home-study text) and architect of this workshop. She is also the Executive Editor of International Living, and spends lots of time gallivanting around Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia, writing about the best locales for overseas travel, retirement, and investment. Jen will give attendees the insider’s scoop about what editors are really after. And she’ll hand them the blueprints for articles they can follow so easily, that they’ll find their pieces published in no time.
Steenie Harvey, based in Ireland, when she's not on the road, is International Living’s roving Euro-editor. She also writes about travel, folklore, and real estate for publications like The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, and The Washington Post. Recent travels have taken her to Malta, the Greek islands, the jungles of Malaysian Borneo, and Italy. Adept at landing incredible assignments, she’s also an editor’s dream to work with — and she’ll tell attendees how she does it… and hand over the keys to getting unbelievable perks.
Blogging Expert:
Paula Pant is the author of Great Escape Publishing’s popular new program, Money-Making Travel Blogs. She is a former newspaper editor who quit her job in 2008 to travel through 27 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. An award-winning freelance journalist, her work has appeared in more than a dozen newspapers, magazines, and major websites, including AARP Bulletin, MSN Money and Business Insider. Her website, Afford Anything, receives 15,000 visitors a month, and she’ll show workshop attendees how they can earn $4,000 to $10,000 a month – documenting their travels through a blog.
Photography Expert:
Efraín M. Padró is a full-time professional photographer specializing in nature and travel subjects. His work has appeared in Outdoor Photographer, Frommer’s Budget Travel, Geographic Expeditions catalogs, and other publications. He is also the author of The Photographer’s Guide to New Mexico. Efrain will provide workshop attendees with the easy techniques they need to transform their vacation snap shots into photos they can sell with their stories, to double what they can earn.
Guest Editors:
Christine McDermott is the managing editor of the award-winning AAA Horizons and Your AAA. The monthly publications have a combined circulation of close to two million in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. Both carry extensive travel sections, with a strong emphasis on drive vacations, using staff and freelance writers – giving workshop attendees a real opportunity to act on.
Kyle Wagner is the Travel Editor at the Denver Post. For 15 years, Kyle was a renowned Denver food critic and is extremely well-respected in foodie circles and was an award-winning food editor, as well. She’ll share her invaluable insider knowledge of what makes travel editors tick, how to write an attractive query, how to break into newspaper travel sections, and how to add a food element – ever more indispensable these days – into travel stories, making them irresistible to editors.
Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon has been a travel journalist for the last two decades. She’s also spent the last six as executive editor at Caribbean Travel + Life magazine, island-hopping all over the region to plush resorts, sugar-sand shores, and raucous beach bars – and getting paid to do it. This year she launched her freelance career, and so far she’s escaped to the Bahamas, Grand Cayman, the beaches of Tobago, and Anguilla – all on paid travel writing assignments, and she’ll show workshop attendees how to do the same.
Ian Aldrich is senior editor of Yankee Magazine. He writes feature stories, home pieces, and helps manage the magazine’s up-front section, “First Light.” He also edits the Editors' Choice travel listings for Yankee's May/June Special Travel Guide. Ian is also an accomplished photographer and produces online videos for YankeeMagazine.com. In Boston, Ian will share his get-paid-to travel advice, and participate in “pitch fests,” where attendees share their “article ideas.” They’ll learn why one idea will work and another won't and ultimately what it takes to get published, and paid to travel... from real clients.
