Great Grandson of NYC’s Famed Schapiro Wine Co. Uses Family Business Acumen to Excel As a Staffing Executive
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 22, 2014 -- For almost 100 years, The Schapiro Wine Co. was the only full-service Kosher winery in New York City. Located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Schapiro Wine Co. has a rich history in the city because it has withstood the test of time, economies, wars and even Prohibition – when it received a special exemption to produce sacramental wine. That company was started by the great-grandfather of Windsor Resources CEO John Schapiro, and those lessons of hard work and dedication to customer service even during the worst of times has positioned his midtown Manhattan firm to be around for many years to come.
Using those skills
Schapiro decided to take another career track and after college – while temping at a recruiting firm – he caught the staffing bug and never looked back. In 2009, in the midst of the worst recession this country has ever seen, John Schapiro started a staffing firm. When the bottom was falling out of Wall Street and unemployment rose to its highest mark of 9.6%, Schapiro decided to start a company focused on placing all levels of professionals in Administrative Office Support, Information Technology, Finance & Accounting and Healthcare.
Schapiro's background, experience and entrepreneurial spirit took over and drowned out his skeptics. "I knew what I was up against," said Schapiro. "And I was ready for the challenge because I had seen my family business survive and thrive despite the economic conditions.”
The good news is that business at Windsor Resources has been consistent and steadily rising over the course of the company’s existence. And what started as two employees is now at 27 and counting. A large part of this is thanks to the focus on contract, temporary and temp-to-hire positions that so many of Windsor’s clients rely on during uncertain times, or to help with large projects.
Not only has Schapiro created a successful staffing firm in four years, but one that is based strictly on merit, and as a result is formed of an inclusive and diverse group of professionals. This is evidenced in the case study Windsor released last month. For example, employee retention at the company is 94%, which is unheard of in that industry.
"We attribute our growth in tough economic times to hard work, excellent recruiting practices and great relationships with our clients,” said Schapiro. He also acknowledges that embracing the social and digital culture of recruiting is a clear step in the right direction to keep expanding the Windsor Resources brand, much like his father did, and work toward the same type of long-standing success that Schapiro Wine Company enjoyed.
