Great-Value Communities Directory Features Interactive Map of Best Retirement Destinations in Mexico and Central America—InternationalLiving.com
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) September 19, 2016 -- Central America and Mexico are home to some of the most popular communities for retirement for Americans and Canadians. This isn’t surprising, considering the great qualities Mexico and Central America have to offer, including proximity to the U.S. and Canada and similar time zones.
Expats are also drawn by the relaxed lifestyle and some of the most breathtaking natural beauty and scenery that the world has to offer. Plus there’s the indisputable low cost of living throughout the countries in this region. Many potential expats find that, while retiring in their home country would require frugal living, they can enjoy a higher quality of life at a lower cost in Mexico and Central America.
The Mexico and Central America section of International Living’s first-ever Annual Great-Value Communities Directory puts the top-value picks in the region at users’ fingertips. The Mexico and Central America section highlights some of the favorite retirement destinations of International Living’s team of expat correspondents and editors in Mexico and Central America.
For example, International Living Mexico editor Glynna Prentice says of Guanajuato, “a couple can live here on a budget of around $2,000 a month, including rent, and an individual on as little as $1,400 or $1,500. If you own your home, monthly living costs can be $1,000 or less. Rents run at $400 a month and up.”
In Corozal, Belize, International Living Belize Correspondent Ann Kuffner reports that a two-bedroom condo on the beach—furnished—can be rented for $275 a month, and a week’s worth of fruit and vegetables, plus dry goods and any imported must-haves available at local grocery stores, can cost under $50. “Expats who own their own home in Corozal can live comfortably on less than $1,500 a month,” says Kuffner.

As the cost of living in the U.S. continues to rise and the political and financial outlook feels increasingly uncertain, more and more North Americans are exploring the idea of retiring abroad.
But just as the United States offers a vast array of lifestyle options, cultural traits, budget choices, and landscapes...so, too, does every other country in the world. So when people look to choose a haven overseas, it isn’t just a country, or even a region within that country they must pick... but a community.
In the end, it’s really the town or city or village where an expat chooses to settle that largely determines that person’s quality of life overseas, day-to-day.
International Living’s first-ever annual Great-Value Communities Directory is designed to point potential expats to the towns, cities, and villages around the world where they can find the best bang for their buck today.
