Greater Los Angeles Rallies Against Drugs
Greater Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- Active in drug education for many years, volunteers from Scientology Churches of Greater Los Angeles observed United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by participating in community programs designed to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs.
The Truth About Drugs team of the Church of Scientology of the Valley took to the streets June 15 for the Anti-violence and Anti-drug March in Pacoima sponsored by Communities in Schools, a San Fernando Valley dropout prevention and intervention organization active in stemming gang violence and drug use.
Church of Scientology Los Angeles volunteers observed United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking June 26 with a booth at Glassell Park at the launch of this year of Summer Night Lights program, a crime and violence reduction initiative of the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development and the Los Angeles Police Department. It provides recreational, educational and artistic activities in 16 parks around the city throughout the summer to engage youth in positive activities at night when crime traditionally spikes in Los Angeles.
The Church of Scientology has been participating in Summer Night Lights since the program began in 2008.
Volunteers distributed thousands of copies of The Truth About Drugs booklets to teens and parents, inviting them to pledge to live drug-free.
In addition to the Los Angeles Scientologists, hundreds of volunteers from Scientology Churches and Missions around the world held conferences, sports events, pledge drives and other activities to bring the message of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to their communities.
For more than two and a half decades, Scientologists on five continents have been empowering others with the truth about drugs. The Church and its members are dedicated to eradicating drug abuse through education.

The Church of Scientology supports the Truth About Drugs, one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns.
