Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Assist YMCA of the Palm Beaches in 211 Acre Land Sale Pro Bono
Fort Lauderdale, Fla (PRWEB) July 25, 2017 -- Greenberg Traurig West Palm Beach Shareholder Anthony P. Vernace and Associate Maximilien Weber assisted the YMCA of the Palm Beaches in its July 21 sale of 211 acres in Micanopy, Florida, to Alachua County. The land, which the county has reportedly earmarked for public parks, sold for $1.127 million.
Greenberg Traurig real estate attorneys and staff donated 148 hours of pro bono time to complete the deal, which took nearly a year of negotiation to close.
“The challenge was to work with several entities to gain clear title for the YMCA of the Palm Beaches to all of the property,” said Vernace, who is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Practice. “We were very pleased with the results we achieved for the YMCA, which plans to use the proceeds from the sale toward revitalization of its main campus in Palm Beach County.”
Vernace is a member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA of the Palm Beaches, the Chairman of its Governance committee, and an active member of its Property Committee. He has provided more than 100 pro bono hours to the organization in addition to his latest pro bono assignment. For his work with the YMCA, Vernace received the 2016 Community Service Award from the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County.
Mounting capital development needs at the YMCA of the Palm Beaches’ main location in West Palm Beach, coupled with the fact only a small percentage of those young people attending the camp were from the YMCA of the Palm Beaches' core service area, ultimately led to the board’s decision to sell the Camp and focus its resources on needed facility improvements at its main location in West Palm Beach.
“This was a difficult and emotional decision,” said Tim Coffield, CEO of the YMCA of the Palm Beaches. “Several of our board members attended Camp McConnell in their youth and all of us were proud of the experiences our Y had been able to provide young people at the camp over the years. Anthony, Max, and the entire team at Greenberg Traurig did an incredible job with a very complex transaction and we are forever grateful for their commitment to the Y and its cause of strengthening the foundation of communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.”
