Greenberg Traurig Grows Global Energy and Infrastructure Practice, Adds Elizabeth B. Herdes in Denver
DENVER (PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- The Denver office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP has added Elizabeth Herdes as National Infrastructure Safety Counsel. Herdes will support the firm's global energy and infrastructure safety practice groups. She will focus her work on advising multi-spectral clients in the energy space concerning the safe and reliable transportation of hydrocarbons – from natural gas to liquids and petroleum crude oil – in pipelines and railcars, as well as other energy transportation safety, operational and regulatory issues.
"We are excited to add Elizabeth to our growing energy team in Denver," said David G. Palmer, managing shareholder of the firm’s Denver office. "Elizabeth's deep knowledge of infrastructure security and safety issues will be a huge asset to our energy clients throughout the industry."
"Elizabeth is a highly experienced, key addition to GT's team that focuses on safety issues affecting not only the pipeline industry but other sectors of the energy industry as a whole," said Kenneth M. Minesinger, co-chair of the firm's global energy practice group. "She continues the significant growth of GT’s energy practice group over the past several years."
For nearly 15 years, Herdes served as senior counsel at El Paso Corporation working with Greenberg Traurig Denver shareholder Craig Richardson, the former General Counsel of El Paso Corporation's Pipeline Group for nearly a decade. Since leaving El Paso at the time of its merger with another U.S. energy company (resulting in the fourth largest U.S. energy firm with an enterprise value of over $100 billion), Herdes has worked as a solo practitioner, providing legal advice on energy transportation safety issues for some of the largest corporations in North America. She has supported the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) Foundation's industry-wide safety initiatives, and has built a widely respected reputation for enhancing corporate safety cultures and representing clients through all aspects of administrative proceedings before the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline Hazardous & Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Herdes also provides advice to clients who appear before the California Public Utilities Commission on matters related to pipeline safety and safety aspects in rate cases. She received her J.D. from Pepperdine School of Law in 1984 and her B.S. in Business Administration from California State University, Long Beach in 1979.
Greenberg Traurig's Global Energy practice focuses on the oil and gas industry. The Denver team routinely represents clients working on a myriad of legal issues including federal, state, tribal and local jurisdiction issues; upstream oil and gas development and production matters; negotiation and acquisition of surface-use-agreements, rights-of-way, and easements associated with natural resource development; pipeline, safety and transportation issues; and the negotiation and acquisition of federal and Indian mineral leaseholds. The firm regularly assists clients in the creation of mineral resource development joint ventures and partnerships, as well as numerous natural resources transaction agreements including purchase and sale agreements, mergers and wholesale acquisitions.
