Greenberg Traurig Hosts Americas Society/Council of the Americas’ Second Women’s Hemispheric Network Forum
Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP partnered for the second AS/COA Women’s Hemispheric Network Forum in Miami: Inspiring Women to Lead. The Forum took place on Jan. 16, 2015 at Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office.
In line with Greenberg Traurig’s long-standing commitment to supporting the ongoing advancement of women, the Forum brought together public and private sector women leaders from across industries to discuss their personal career trajectories and offer perspectives on advancing rights and opportunities for women. During the one-day Forum, participants engaged in panel discussions and interactive sessions aimed at empowering one another.
“Support for women’s empowerment programming such as this is critical to advancing the status of women,” said Patricia Menéndez-Cambó, vice president and secretary. “Joint discussions and collaborative brainstorming sessions are the way forward to bring about ideas, concrete action and tangible results for women leaders who are committed to accelerating the full and equal participation of women in their industries.”
The agenda of the Forum encouraged cross-sector collaboration. Discussion topics included building your career, self-advocating and developing your personal brand, succeeding in the corporate world, pursuing entrepreneurial ventures, leading in male-dominated environments, mentoring, among others.
“There’s been tremendous progress in the advancement of women across our industries, and now more than ever, it’s clear our continued progress will depend largely on the actions that women leaders from all sectors take today,” said Alexandra Aguirre, shareholder. “This Forum gave us an opportunity to focus on key challenges and opportunities around women’s empowerment and the need for inclusive policies. I’m thankful for the leadership of the people who are participating, and hopeful that our discussions will re-energize our efforts to shape our shared future in even more positive ways.”
“We are delighted to have brought our Women’s Hemispheric Network Forum for the second time to Miami in association with Greenberg Traurig. The growing sense of community between female leaders and young professionals that we are witnessing in our roundtables, workshops, and conferences across the Americas is extraordinary,” said Ragnhild Melzi, AS/COA Senior Director of Public Policy Programs and Corporate Relations. “I cannot think of a more significant and auspicious outcome for the initiative AS/COA envisioned just three years ago.”

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, U.S. Representative for the 23rd District of Florida, and Alexandra Villoch, president and publisher, The Miami Herald Media Company, both delivered insightful and dynamic keynote addresses regarding the dire need for women to bolster each other and the importance of hiring, retaining and promoting talent that reflects the diversity of our community, respectively.
