Greenberg Traurig’s Armando Gonzalez Earns Texas Board Certification in Oil, Gas, and Mineral Law
HOUSTON (PRWEB) February 17, 2015 -- Armando Gonzalez, an associate in the Houston office of the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been designated as a board-certified attorney in Oil, Gas, and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS). The TBLS is the only organization in Texas authorized to certify attorneys in select areas of law. After meeting rigorous selection requirements, Gonzalez is among fewer than 360 Texas attorneys and one of only 99 Houston attorneys who currently hold this credential.
“Armando’s board certification demonstrates a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of oil and gas law,” said Doug Atnipp, co-regional operating shareholder of Greenberg Traurig in Texas and co-chair of the firm's Global Energy and Infrastructure Practice. “His experience, skill set and knowledge in the energy industry add real value for our clients.”
According to its website, the TBLS was established in 1974 by the State Bar of Texas, with continuing jurisdiction under the Supreme Court of Texas. Eligible attorneys must be licensed for a minimum of five years with at least three years of substantial representations in a TBLS practice area. In addition, the board requires attorneys to submit extensive experience documentation, complete relevant continuing legal education (CLE) seminars, provide references from 10 vetted sources, and pass a daylong examination. To retain this designation, board certified attorneys complete ongoing CLE courses and periodically furnish additional references.
Gonzalez has wide-ranging experience in the energy industry, particularly in cross-border transactions, acquisitions and divestitures, project development, and due diligence. He works regularly with energy clients in the United States and Mexico. He represents gas oil and gas exploration and production companies, gas utilities and pipelines, and power generation companies in transactional and regulatory matters. Prior to joining the firm, Gonzalez handled energy transactions across Latin America for a publicly traded, international oil and gas company. His previous experience also includes assisting clients with all facets of their exploration and production activities as an associate in the energy section of a nationally known law firm in Houston.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Gonzalez is a member of the Oil, Gas, and Energy Resources Law Section and the International Law Section of the American Bar Association, the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Young Professionals in Energy. He is licensed to practice law in Texas and North Dakota.
Gonzalez holds a J.D. from South Texas College of Law, where he was the recipient of the Hispanic Law Student Association Scholarship. He received his B.B.A. in International Business from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
