Greenberg Traurig’s Hilarie Bass Selected to Become President-Elect Nominee of the American Bar Association in 2016
Miami, FL (PRWEB) February 08, 2016 -- Hilarie Bass, Co-President of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, has been selected to become the President-Elect Nominee of the American Bar Association. If elected in August, she will serve a one-year term as President-Elect before becoming ABA President in August 2017.
The ABA, the world’s largest voluntary professional organization with more than 400,000 members, has been responsible since 1878 for vital functions such as accrediting law schools, drafting rules of ethics, and evaluating all federal judicial candidates. Past ABA presidents have included U.S. Supreme Court justices, a U.S. Secretary of State, and Congressmen.
Bass has been involved with the ABA for more than 30 years, beginning as a young lawyer and working her way up to become Chair of the Litigation Section, the ABA’s largest section. She also served as Chair of the Committee on Rules and Calendar, and as a member of the Board of Governors, House of Delegates and the State of Florida representative on the Nominating Committee.

The ABA presidency would mark another lifetime achievement and testament to the success that Bass has attained throughout her career. Based at the firm’s Miami office, she currently serves as Co-President and a member of the Executive Committee for the multi-practice firm that has 1,950 attorneys across 38 offices worldwide. She previously served an eight-year term as national chair of its 600-member litigation department. She has successfully represented high-profile corporate clients in jury and non-jury trials involving hundreds of millions of dollars in controversy. In recognition of that success, Bass was inducted to The American College of Trial Lawyers. She has worked and settled more than 100 cases, tried more than 20 cases to conclusion, and argued numerous appeals. She has led top legal and community organizations and received numerous prestigious awards and accolades. Bass is widely recognized for her pro bono work on behalf of two foster children which led to the elimination and holding of the unconstitutionality of the 20-year-old ban on gay adoption in the State of Florida.
In 2011, she completed her term as Chair of the American Bar Association’s 70,000-member Section of Litigation, where (among other projects) she spearheaded the creation of a Task Force on Implicit Bias in the Justice System. Bass is also the former chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Women's Initiative and a prior member of the ABA Commission on Women.
