Greenberg Traurig’s Keith Shapiro Appointed as Co-Chair of the Illinois Holocaust and Genocide Commission
CHICAGO (PRWEB) April 13, 2015 -- Keith J. Shapiro, vice president of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP and chairman of its Chicago office, has been appointed co-chair of the Illinois Holocaust and Genocide Commission by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner. The commission provides guidance on Holocaust and genocide education and commemoration across the state.
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve in this role. I look forward to working with my fellow commission members and the Governor,” said Shapiro.
Shapiro is a longtime member of the board of directors of the the Jewish Federation / Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago and is vice chairman of the Anti-Defamation League of Greater Chicago. He is also on the board of the American Jewish Committee and received its prestigious Judge Learned Hand Award in 2013. In 2007, he received the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Judge Simon H. Rifkind Award.
Additionally, Shapiro serves on the advisory board of the DePaul University College of Law's Center for Jewish Law & Judaic Studies as well as the National Counsel and Illinois Executive Committee of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. He previously served on the boards of the Jewish Theological Seminary, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Sciences, and the Chicagoland Jewish High School, and was the founding chair of the Law and Justice Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
