Greenberg Traurig’s Rick Shackelford and Daniell Newman Speak at FDLI Conferences in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco
(PRWEB) September 22, 2016 -- Daniell K. Newman, a litigation shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Los Angeles office, will speak at the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) conference in San Francisco Sept. 22-23 entitled “Introduction to Food Law and Regulation.” He will speak about the general requirements for food labeling, including meat and poultry, at 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 22, as well as on imports and international issues at 2 p.m. on Sept.23.
Rick L. Shackelford, co-lead of the firm’s Food & Beverage Group and co-chair of both the Class Action Litigation Practice, and the Los Angeles Litigation Practice spoke at the FDLI’s Washington, D.C. conference Sept.14 -15, “Food Advertising, Labeling and Litigation.” At that conference, Shackelford was part of a panel discussion that explored the biggest issues surrounding litigation, how to avoid litigation, and what to do if a company or client finds itself on the receiving end of a lawsuit.
Shackelford, who defends food and beverage clients against false advertising accusations, has established precedent in this ever-changing and litigious industry. As an experienced trial litigator, he represents his clients in complex litigation, including consumer class actions, product liability, false advertising, and commercial law. Shackelford consistently wins cases in key jurisdictions by dismissal, summary judgment, or defeating class certification. He successfully defended three major juice companies in federal jury trials in cases brought by competitors alleging false advertising in violation of the Lanham Act. He has also represented several other food and juice makers in consumer class actions alleging deceptive trade practices and false advertising, including challenges to nutrition, ingredient, and health claims made in a variety of media. Shackelford has also defended clients in consumer product liability cases, including Proposition 65 claims.
Newman focuses his practice on helping clients develop litigation strategies that meet both their case-specific and larger business objectives. He has considerable jury trial experience, defending complex civil cases against some of America’s best-known food and beverage companies, including, with Shackelford, three Lanham Act false advertising trials for juice companies. Newman also has broad experience in products liability defense and toxic tort defense; in defense of consumer class actions, including CAFA actions; and has helped numerous clients achieve successful settlements or resolutions of these cases.
