Greenberg Traurig’s William C. Silverman Recognized as one of New York’s New Abolitionists
NEW YORK (PRWEB) December 05, 2014 -- William C. Silverman, litigation shareholder and head of the pro bono program at international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been recognized as one of New York’s New Abolitionists by Sanctuary for Families and the New York State Anti-Trafficking Coalition.
Silverman was honored as a new abolitionist at The Paley Center for Media in New York City Dec. 2 for his efforts to combat human trafficking in New York state.
New York’s New Abolitionists program -- a campaign to end human trafficking and raise awareness recognizes 120 leaders in government, human rights, business and the arts, and includes Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Police Commissioner William Bratton, actress Tina Fey, as well as survivors of human trafficking, among others. “I am deeply honored to be part of New York’s New Abolitionists movement,” said Silverman. “Attorneys in the private sector should not be content with individual pro bono cases, but rather should advocate for changes in the law and public policy that better protect victims and better ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. Only then will we start addressing the scourge of human trafficking."
Silverman focuses his practice on government investigations and white collar criminal matters, as well as complex civil litigation in federal and state courts. He serves as counsel to the New York State Anti-Trafficking Coalition, is on the boards of directors for The Fund for Modern Courts, The Children’s Law Center and Legal Information for Families Today (LIFT). He has been recognized as a leader in the pro bono community, and some of his accolades include the Above and Beyond Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service from Sanctuary for Families and the Commitment to Justice Award for Outstanding Partner from inMotion.
