Greenberg Traurig Sponsors Chambers and Partners “Women in Leadership: Latin America” Seminar in São Paulo
Miami, Fla. (PRWEB) December 18, 2014 -- International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP joined KermaPartners, TozziniFreire and UK publisher Chambers and Partners in hosting a one-day seminar, “Women in Leadership: Latin America,” on Dec. 9, 2014 at The Renaissance Hotel in São Paulo, Brazil to discuss the key issues affecting the advancement of women in the legal profession.
The seminar included two panels focused on the challenges and opportunities affecting future and existing women leaders in legal markets throughout Latin America. The general counsel panel featured Patricia Menéndez-Cambó, vice president and secretary, Greenberg Traurig; Carmen Backsmann, executive manager of legal affairs, Volkswagen do Brasil; Josie Jardim, associate general counsel, Amazon Brazil; Ana Carolina de Salles Freire, director of legal compliance, AES Brasil; and Edith Bertoletti, legal director, WT Goodman. This panel was moderated by In-house Editor Dee Sekar, Chambers and Partners. The private practice panel featured Jorge Perez-Taiman, partner, Muñiz, Ramírez, Pérez-Taiman & Olaya; Maria Elisa Verri, partner, TozziniFreire; Carlos Umaña Trujillo, partner, Brigard & Urrutia; and Cecilia Mairal, partner, Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal. This panel was moderated by Principal and Head of Markets Leopoldo Hernández Romano, KermaPartners.
“Women start their careers with the same level of intelligence, education, and commitment as men, yet comparatively few reach the top echelons,” said Patricia Menéndez-Cambó, who also serves as Chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Practice and Co-Chair of the Global Energy & Infrastructure Practice. “It is important that we continue to discuss methods for reducing the gap in gender parity. Not only does it impact future generations of women leaders, but it is proven that greater diversity directly correlates with business success.”
Managing partners, senior legal counsel and lawyers at the forefront of gender diversity initiatives engaged in thought-provoking discussions and interactive break-out sessions with the audience following both panels. All were eager to discuss their personal experiences and provided insights into what it takes to stay on the leadership track.
“I have experienced first-hand the challenges that come with balancing your home life with the high demands of the legal industry,” said Alexandra Aguirre, a Corporate & Securities Shareholder at Greenberg Traurig who attended the event. “I am grateful to the women and men who have mentored and sponsored me along the way, and am passionate about the opportunity to serve as a role model for the next generation of women leaders.”
