Caroline Dorton embodies selfless community service every day of her life, working with the Orange City Fire Department for almost 10 years, teaching CPR at Daytona State College and, in years prior, serving as a volunteer with the Volusia County Fire Department. While recently enjoying an evening out, Caroline heard cries for help from a stranger on the street. With no regard for her own safety, she and another diner ran out of the restaurant to help. As Caroline’s paramedic training kicked in to help, the attacker ran all three people over while fleeing the scene of the crime. Caroline, believed to have taken most of the car’s impact, sustained quite severe injuries. As the mother of three, being out of work and requiring on-going medical care puts her family in grave financial distress.
