According to the report, Claybrook and Ditlow argue that GM’s decision to utilize the cheaper part for use in its 2003 Chevrolet Cobalts rather than a component that had what the agencies deemed to be a more effective design may have led to the 13 deaths associated with the faulty ignition switch.

Additionally, Reuters** published on April 16 noted that General Motors requested barring lawsuits related to actions before its 2009 bankruptcy. The auto manufacturer is hoping to delay litigation over the defect until a U.S. bankruptcy judge can clarify the extent of a sale order in the manufacturer’s 2009 reorganization.
