Gripping Gravity of Alzheimer’s Disease Tackled in New Book
RENO, Nev. (PRWEB) July 14, 2015 -- Sharon L. Tocchini’s experience with a family member who had Alzheimer’s disease prompted her to write a book that uncovers the struggles and hardships not only of the victim but also of the members who surround the victim of such a debilitating disease. There are an estimated 5.2 million Americans that have Alzheimer’s disease; in fact, someone develops the disease every 67 seconds, and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. according to ScienceDirect.com. “If Life Were Fair” (published by Xlibris) is Tocchini’s heartrending fictional story that tackles such a theme.
Carrie’s life seemed perfect until her beloved father died and Carrie takes in her mother, only to discover that she suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Carrie comes to realize that Alzheimer’s disease not only takes its initial victim but also destroys entire families with its daily progress of destructive deterioration. When Carrie’s mother is found dead, her life takes a surreal turn for the worse. Carrie now finds herself without essential pieces and parts of her family and is now also fighting with her siblings and maybe facing life in prison.
As Carrie sits in prison, waiting for the judicial system to decide her future and Detective Chavez to unearth the truth, she wonders if she has the ability to endure the current circumstances, the strength to go on, or the competence to make decisions in her own life as she ponders what is next.
Through Carrie’s experiences, the author is able to show the effects of having to deal with a family member who has Alzheimer’s disease and also how to go on in life after a beloved one’s passing. The dangers of being wrongly accused are addressed when Carrie’s life turns into a person’s worst nightmare after her mother is found dead. The relatable portrayal of Carrie lets readers empathize with people who can, to some degrees, relate to the roller coaster ride of one woman — and her family’s — life journey.
