Grocery Volunteers Needed for Elderly Homebound
Morristown, NJ (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- One of the most in demand forms of assistance among VNA senior clients living alone is help with grocery shopping. Since its beginning in 1898, volunteers have played an integral role in the success of the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey. As the number of those aging at home continues to grow and their needs expand the VNA’s ability to provide the simple but essential service is directly linked to a team of community volunteers.
Our House Call Groceries for Seniors Program matches clients of Morris County with volunteer grocery shoppers. Once placed with a client, volunteers will visit the client's home weekly to collect the grocery shopping list, coupons and payment for the groceries and go to the local grocery store to shop. Once shopping is completed, volunteers deliver the groceries and assist in putting them away.
Providing this simple basic necessity will make a difference in the life of a neighbor for whom shopping has become a difficult task and, in the process, provide companionship to a homebound senior.
This is a great opportunity to give back to those in need. It is also a great opportunity for a parent/child volunteer activity and provides an opportunity serve those in the community while also teaching a valuable lesson in the joy of volunteering and gain credentials for college resumes and job applications. Volunteers must be 16 and over to participate and must have their own form or transportation.
The Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey currently has needs all over Morris County. Volunteers will be matched to clients according to location but willingness to travel is greatly appreciated.
