Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 10, 2014 -- Hollywood-based Grosh Backdrops and Drapery proudly helps usher in the next generation of theater actors by sponsoring the annual Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards – Shuler Hensley Awards, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, April 17th.
The GHSMTA are part of the National High School Musical Theater Awards. The GHSMTA-Shuler Hensley Awards celebrate and recognize excellence in Georgia’s high school musical theater programs. The awards were conceived and developed in 2009 by the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation’s ArtsBridge education program. The awards were originally named after Broadway star and Atlanta native, Shuler Hensley. Grosh Backdrops and Drapery, along with ArtsBridge, are committed to emerging performers. “We’re thrilled to help highlight the talent of Georgia students,” said Amanda Uhlein, Grosh Backdrops and Drapery President.
The innovative awards program is not a competition. School productions are evaluated by a panel of more than 55 adjudicators from Georgia’s professional arts community which scores each production on how well it meets or exceeds that school’s unique resources and challenges. The program uses an awards show format, but it emphasizes celebration, community and camaraderie among all schools. Recipients of the leading actor and actress awards will represent the state at the National High School Musical Theater Awards on Broadway in New York City this summer.
In addition, Grosh will provide a backdrop and two drapes for the gala event at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. “This is our first time working with GHSMTA-Shuler Hensley Awards,” said Uhlein. “We’re excited and honored at the opportunity to help set the stage for such a commendable production at such a beautiful venue.”
