Groundbreaking NOCO Genius® Boost™ Car Starter Available Commercially Beginning October 6, 2014
Glenwillow, Ohio (PRWEB) September 23, 2014 -- While automotive booster cables (also called “jumper cables”) and lead-acid jump starters are effective, they also pose significant consumer safety risks. But recently introduced Genius® Boost™ by NOCO® solves issues that have plagued consumers for years while accomplishing this within a notably smaller and lighter design.
Designed for Safety and Adaptability
Genius Boost is a 12V lithium jump starter designed to power dead batteries in cars, boats, motorcycles, lawn mowers, trucks, and other vehicles. With Genius Boost, users can safely jump start a dead battery in seconds while also enjoying a myriad of advantages over comparable solutions. Most notably, Genius Boost’s UltraSafe™ design safely eliminates sparks by means of spark-proof technology and reverse polarity protection. Adding to its value, it integrates a powerful dual LED flashlight with seven light modes and recharges any USB device including smartphones and tablets.
With Genius Boost, vehicle jump starting no longer requires professional assistance or technical savvy, safely and easily connecting to any battery. If a user accidentally touches its battery clamps together or hooks it up to the battery in reverse, Genius Boost will not generate sparks or harm the battery, the product, or the user. Instead, a simple LED error illuminates to help users quickly diagnose the problem and get their vehicle running again.
Booster Cable Technology
Booster cables have long been the go-to essential for motorists, frequently found in vehicles and in roadside emergency kits. Though booster cables are inexpensive, they are also inconvenient and risk-prone. Most booster cables on the market today contain no safety functionality, so proper use is critical. This includes clear identification of the positive and negative terminals. Accidental battery connection in reverse order or battery clamp collision can cause sparks. Jump starting also requires an additional vehicle, which may require interactions with strangers or hours of waiting for assistance. These risks and downsides make many motorists reluctant to use booster cables altogether.
Lead-Acid Jump-Starter Technology
A popular alternative to booster cables, until today, has been lead-acid jump starters. These devices solve some of the problems associated with booster cables. The main advantage is their ability to start a vehicle without the assistance of another. However, lead-acid jump starters pose the same safety risks as booster cables, with no short-circuit or reverse polarity protection. Although lead-acid jump starters offer additional benefits to booster cables, they also present additional drawbacks.
Lead-acid jump starters contain a lead-acid battery, which makes them large and heavy – with some up to 40 pounds in weight. As a result, not all motorists can use these devices effectively or conveniently store them inside their vehicle. Most often, motorists store lead-acid jump starters in their homes and garages, notably limiting device usefulness. Lead-acid jump starters also have a high self-discharge rate of approximately 5 to 20 percent per month, potentially discharging in full within a month. Consequently, lead-acid jump starters may not provide the charge necessary when the motorist needs it. Damage to lead-acid batteries when left uncharged can be permanent, with conditions like sulfation and acid stratification reducing its life capacity. The only way to avoid these conditions is to keep the jump starter charged permanently, which most motorists never do.
Genius Boost Technology
The beauty and simplicity of Genius Boost lies in its internal lithium-ion battery, which can last up to one full year when left uncharged without suffering long-term damage. Genius Boost requires just one annual or semi-annual charge to ensure users can jump start their vehicle should the need arise. While compact in size, Genius Boost is extremely powerful and is suitable for all types of vehicles up to six liters (6000cc) and can provide up to 20 jump starts on a single charge.
“Safety was our top priority when designing Genius Boost, but we also wanted to offer a gadget that was compact and practical – serving multiple purposes,” explained Rick Stanfield, NOCO’s Chief Technology Officer. “That’s why its integrated dual LED flashlight also provides the beam of light many motorists need while changing tires or inspecting an engine, while SOS and emergency strobe modes warn oncoming vehicles. Its USB port can also double as a charging station for any USB device, including smartphones, giving users enough power to make and receive calls.”
The Genius Boost is safe, practical, and ideal for car emergency kits. The Genius Boost GB30 retails for $159.95 and will be available through select resellers beginning October 6, 2014. For more information, visit no.co/boost
