Growing demand for IT Graduates as vacancies up 77%
London (PRWEB UK) 26 June 2014 -- According to research recently published in June 2014 (Highfliers 2014), only three sectors have increased their vacancies significantly since 2007, of which Technology has grown substantially.
This rise of 77% is significantly higher than all other sectors, except the public sector. The growth in Technology graduate vacancies is astonishing given that other sectors have shown dramatic falls in the number of vacancies including Banking and Finance, down 10%, and Law, down 22%.
Despite this rise and clear growing demand, the IT skills gap continues to grow as computer science degree applications actually fell between 2011 and 2012. The number of computer science applications fell by 10% in 2012 but have since marginally increased in 2013 (UCAS).
Meanwhile, IT Graduates can expect an average starting salary of £25,000. Despite the increase in demand in this sector, starting salaries have actually been constant for the last few years (Technojobs data). In the UK, IT and technology graduate placements are offered by many of the bigger employer brands including Accenture, HSBC, JP Morgan, John Lewis and many more.
