Growing Trend Toward Industrialization of Genomics Drives Growth at Paradigm4
Waltham, MA (PRWEB) June 12, 2015 -- Paradigm4, creators of SciDB, a scalable, computational database management system designed for advanced analytics on multidimensional data, announced the expansion of their executive team along with the addition of new customers in the genomics and financial services markets.
If bioinformatics remains a “craft,” while molecular information is collected on an industrial scale, progress can only proceed slowly. Today’s Life Sciences companies face a critical need to move beyond first generation bioinformatics tools with new scientific information technology solutions like SciDB that scale analyses to an industrial level.
New computational DBMS solution required
First generation tools suffer from several shortcomings. They do not readily allow data to be searchable or sharable, thus precluding easy analysis. They separate data storage from computation—forcing too much time to be spent moving data instead of analyzing data. There is insufficient support for integrating diverse datasets or scaling complex analytics.
Paradigm4’s solutions enable data-driven hypothesis-generation to accelerate the discovery of safety and efficacy biomarkers that may have been invisible. SciDB can be the discovery engine for precision medicine programs.
SciDB powers 1000 Genomes browser
“As the engine behind the National Center for Biotechnology Information’s 1000 Genomes Browser since October 2012, Paradigm4 comes to the life science space with a proven record. As a result, we have recently added customers who use large and diverse data sets to solve a wide range of problems from target identification through patient stratification,” stated Marilyn Matz, CEO and Co-Founder of Paradigm4.
Company expands executive team
The company recently added two new hires to round out its executive team. Joining the Paradigm4 team are Zachary Pitluk, Ph.D., Vice President, Life Sciences Business Development and Jason Kinchen, Vice President, Engineering.
Dr. Pitluk brings to Paradigm4 more than a dozen years of experience in the Life Sciences market from companies such as Cellomics, Definiens, and Proveris Scientific, among others. Mr. Kinchen has extensive experience leading engineering teams at companies such as Attivio and The Mathworks.
Expansion of Paradigm4 customer base
Paradigm4 has recently added several new customers among them are:
Complete Genomics, a life sciences company that has developed and commercialized a DNA sequencing platform.
PEAK6, one of the first firms to develop sophisticated, proprietary technology which more efficiently manages risk in the options market.
They join other industry leaders like Foundation Medicine, the National Institutes of Health, NASA, Novartis, MIT Lincoln Laboratories, and others who are using SciDB for high throughput and reproducible research.
