GTT Group, Inc. Releases December 2015 Patent Transaction Market Outlook Including the Q3 2015 Patent Market Index
Portland, OR (PRWEB) December 09, 2015 -- Global Technology Transfer Group, Inc. (GTT Group), the world leader in patent transaction advisory services, today makes available the Q3 2015 Patent Market Index and Patent Licensing Index in the December 2015 Patent Transaction Market Report.
The Patent Market Index (PMI®) tracks patent transaction activity and patent marketplace trends, and is reported quarterly in the Patent Transaction Market Report (PTMR). The Patent Licensing Index (PLI®) tracks activity among publicly traded patent licensing companies to provide comparative performance indicators, and is also reported quarterly in the PTMR.
GTT Group projected the PMI® to remain within the current market equilibrium during the second half of 2015, and this was reflected in relatively no upward movement in the index at the close Q3 2015 finishing at 104.14 or one-third of a point decline. GTT Group consensus is that the present equilibrium should continue through Q4 2015 and possibly into the first and second quarters of 2016. The market remains, characterized by strategic transactions involving a small number of assets. Transaction volume as measured by the number of assets also experienced its first decline in four quarters.
“Increased uncertainty over appropriate patent value, especially in relation to patentable subject matter, challenges the marketplace,” says Michael Lubitz, CEO and Chairman of GTT Group. “It remains to be seen whether new technology areas such as smart cars, wearables, and IOT will positively impact the marketplace.”
The Q3 2015 PLI® benchmark fell 7%, accentuating the previous downward trend from earlier in 2015. The Q3 2015 PLI® significantly underperformed the S&P 500, dropping 17% when compared to the S&P 500 drop of 7%.
Intellectual Ventures returned to the top position of Most Active Deal Maker this quarter with 10 acquisitions. Google, RPX, and Samsung tied for second place and rounded out the most active dealer makers for Q3 2015.
