Guinea Jubilee Committee Hosts 2013 Print Art Contest Exhibit and Artist Reception
Gloucester, Va. (PRWEB) July 08, 2013 -- The Guinea Jubilee Committee of the Guinea Heritage Association hosted an exhibit and artists reception June 28 and 29 at the Bena Country Store on Guinea Road to celebrate the artists and photographers who submitted original works for the 2013 Guinea Jubilee Print Contest.
-Lee Abston submitted “Silent Hunter,” a watercolor on paper of a Heron.
-Raquel Barrera submitted “Quiet Evening,” an acrylic on canvas.
-Peter Jelinek submitted two oil on canvas pieces, including “The Final Resting Place of Ms. Kandi” and “Through the Generations, The Browns.”
-Toril Eller submitted “End of Season,” an oil and acrylic piece.
-Bob Groves submitted a boat scene, an acrylic on paper.
-Bethany Abston submitted “Old News,” a colored pencil, pen and ink on paper.
-April Abston submitted “Taken,” depicting an osprey with fish made with colored pencil, pen and ink on paper.
-Carol Aldridge submitted “Great Escape,” a crab with bushel baskets, in an acrylic on canvas.
-Rod Bennett submitted two entries, including “Five Pines,” an acrylic on canvas, and “Guinea Neck,” an acrylic and ink on paper.
-Renata Bumgarner submitted “Pelicans,” an oil on canvas.
-Jim Baughman submitted “Waiting,” a photograph.
The selected entry will be used for the reproduction of the official Guinea Jubilee print.
The unveiling of the winning selection is scheduled for Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Abingdon Ruritan Club on Guinea Road.
The first place winning artist will also receive $750.
While there is no specific theme, artists were encouraged to consider the Guinea area and culture, or the Guinea Jubilee, when creating their entry.
The Guinea Jubilee Festival is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27 from 3 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Guinea Jubilee and the Guinea Heritage Association are committed to preserving the history and values of a unique community we call Guinea. The Guinea Jubilee is a two day event that annually attracts thousands of people to celebrate and honor the way of life in the Guinea Neck. The Jubilee features cultural activities, arts and crafts exhibits, a parade, delicious seafood, and a fireworks show to end the event.
