(PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- Award-winning guitarist and harp-guitarist Muriel Anderson performs with Germany’s famed duo Leo Henrichs and Raughi Ebert of Tierra Negra as part of the International Guitar Spotlight Series at Soka Performing Arts Center on Thursday, January 30, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at performingarts.soka.edu or by calling 949-480-4ART (4278).
One of the world’s foremost fingerstyle guitarists and harp-guitarists, Muriel Anderson is the first woman to have won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship. She has recorded over a dozen CD’s and performs in the US, Europe, and the Far East.
Her facility across the genres of folk, classical, jazz, bluegrass and international music is revered by guitarists worldwide. Her unique approach to the instrument virtually transforms the guitar into a lyrical choir, then a marching band, then a Japanese koto, then a Bluegrass band, one minute launching into a Beatles’ tune and the next, Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez. Touring in the USA and internationally year round, she continually amazes audiences with her technique and endears them with her sense of humor.
Anderson’s initial encounter with Tierra Negra came when she visited the booth at a European music festival where the German flamenco duo was selling its signature line of handmade guitars. “When we got there one morning, we found Muriel with one of our guitars playing her song ‘Angelina Baker,’” recalls Tierra Negra’s Leo Henrichs. “We immediately grabbed guitars as well, and started jamming with her for the very first time. You could say that the first communication between the three of us was nonverbal—it was musical.” They collaborated on a studio album New World Flamenco and are currently touring together. “It’s a dream to play this music with them, and we are continuing to find ways to explore our music together,” says Anderson.
