Gusher Days Festival Celebrates Oil Industry with Food and Fun in Oil City, May 2
OIL CITY, LA (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- Gusher Days Festival will celebrate north Caddo Parish’s primary industry – oil, May 2 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., at Earl G. Williamson Park in Oil City. The event’s theme is “Where Oil and Water Mix.”
The free festival will kick-off with a Bass fishing tournament on Caddo Lake at 6:30 a.m. and weigh-in at 3 p.m. The archery shoot out is 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and car and motorcycle show is 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Live entertainment will begin at 10 a.m., and the headliner entertainer is FOX’s “The X-Factor” finalist Willie Jones. Other activities include a canning taste-off, photo contest, vendor booths, amusements and food.
The discovery and production of oil was the catalyst for forming Oil City, and it was the first site of offshore oil wells in the United States. Considered the largest natural lake of fresh water in the South covering 26,800 acres, Caddo Lake is shared by Texas and Louisiana.
“Not only does the Gusher Days Festival bring the Oil City community together, it also brings surrounding neighborhoods in to enjoy the activities throughout the day,” said Casey Boddie, member of Gusher Days Festival committee. “We invite entertainers, food vendors and craft vendors from all over north Caddo parish to partake in the day-long festival."
Missy and Miss Gusher will be announced April 18 at Gusher Days Pageant and will make their first appearances at the May 2 festival.
