Guy Cavet Myhre Imagines Dismal Future in Sci-Fi Novel
Seattle (PRWEB) September 26, 2013 -- Guy Cavet Myhre, author of the science fiction novel “The Fetal Issue” (published by AuthorHouse), which is getting a revived marketing push in September 2013, sees the world standing at a crucial turning point in which citizens and people in power are debating moral and ethical issues surrounding abortion, birth control, pollution, pro-life versus pro-choice and global warming. Hoping to bring these issues to light for readers, he offers an entertaining futuristic world to consider in this story of one possible direction he envisions humanity taking.
“The Fetal Issue,” set in a possible future, tells the story of a mother and daughter locked in a battle over their opposing radical beliefs about how the pregnant daughter should deal with her “fetal issue” should it prove to be deformed. The mother’s beliefs are grounded in her experience of also giving birth to a deformed child, and the daughter takes the exact opposite extreme belief of her mother. As they clash over the issue, their points of view gradually gravitate toward each other’s. Eventually, the mother and daughter’s extreme beliefs are both completely reversed, putting them on opposite sides of the arguments once again.
“This book is a futuristic sociological novel, which alerts the entire world to the direction in which our civilization is headed,” Myhre explains. “It could have been non-fiction, but then it would have been less interesting and less all-encompassing.”
Myhre crafts a future mired by pollution, overpopulation, environmental degradation, genetic degeneration and social deterioration. He sees all of the crises as possible – maybe even probable – problems facing society. But through the book, Myhre offers ideas about possible solutions to these problems.
About the Author
Guy Cavet Myhre was born in North Dakota, but spent parts of his childhood in Minnesota, Nevada, California and Alaska. He pursued a degree in civil engineering at the University of Alaska after graduating from Fairbanks High School. Myhre met his wife, Annick, while stationed in France for five years working as a U.S. Air Force pilot. After marrying, he and his wife lived in France, having three sons while working in her parents’ restaurant and inn for eight years. Later, Myhre earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Washington, going on to found and manage a deluxe French restaurant in Seattle, then working as an assistant professor of computer systems technology at Memphis State University and of computer science at Western Washington University. In 2007 Annick, who was never a smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer related to her years working in smoke-filled restaurants most of her life. After her death, Myhre remained in Seattle, living with his youngest son, James.
