Haas Factory Outlet Joins Forces with Vincennes University to Help Veterans Battle Unemployment
Twinsburg, OH (PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- HFO Midwest, a division of Midwest Manufacturing Resources, Inc., has teamed with Vincennes University in Indiana to combat U.S. veteran’s unemployment with a new “Warrior Training” program called “CNC Machinist NOW.”
The 16-week, VA approved training program, launched in September, 2013, prepares military veterans and civilian adult learners with comprehensive entry level CNC machining skills, enabling them to land good paying machining jobs with upward mobility potential. Haas Automation is a sponsoring partner in the program.
“The CNC Machinist NOW Program was developed to address two very specific challenges: the shortage of skilled CNC Machinists and the high unemployment rate among military veterans.
The accelerated schedule was designed specifically for adult learners that need to learn skills quickly and get to work to support themselves and their families,” Vincennes University Director Doug Bowman said.
The first class graduated in December, 2013, and all graduates have jobs, Bowman said.
The course curriculum is designed as an accelerated program of study around industry recognized National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) credentials based on skills needed for a career in CNC machining and manufacturing. Students are trained on Haas CNC machines, Haas simulators and manual machines.
HFO Midwest’s partnership with Vincennes University began almost 14 years ago and the company remains a strong supporter of Vincennes Universities’ ICAT (Indiana Center for Applied Technology) program; which will take delivery of two new Haas ST-10Y turning centers March 2014.
“Our work with Vincennes University goes back many years and has provided scholarships through the Gene Haas Foundation to many students and provided Indiana businesses with quality machinists,” HFO Midwest President David Tucker said. “HFO Midwest is proud to partner with Vincennes University on such a critical program that helps veterans get to work.”
The CNC Machinist NOW program runs three times per year with starting dates in early January, May and September. Class times are 12:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
